HOME – we only have one planet

As illustrated (I hope) by IRIS blogs, You Tube CAN be educational (although I am prepared to bet quite a lot that most people aren't being much educated while logged on to on the site).

I recently learned from You Tube, that a there is new doc out from photographer extraordinaire, Yann Arthus-Bertrand, called HOME. You can watch HOME on You Tube for a few more days. If you don't know about his book, the Earth from Above, please, do check it out - it's amazing.

David Bell: The Mid-Point in York’s First Century

Date: Tuesday, May 5, 2009
Time: 7pm
Location: Founders Assembly Hall (152 Founders)

McLaughlin College Fellows and Students Present

"The Mid-Point in York's First Century: Perspectives on Sustainability and the Future of Humankind." David V. J Bell, Professor Emeritus and Former Dean, Faculty of Environmental Studies, will present this talk as part of York’s 50th Anniversary Master’s Lecture Series.

The mid point of York’s first century coincides with the mid-point of the UN Decade for Education for Sustainable Development [UNDESD 2005 - 2014]. This is an ideal time to reflect on the educational ideas and socio-political circumstances of York’s founding in order to focus on the contrasting – and critically urgent – sustainability challenges and opportunities of the next 50 years. I will talk about the role of education and York University in helping society develop an appropriate culture of sustainability that would allow humankind to flourish beyond the next century.
