Biography
Irene Henriques has published numerous articles in leading journals including the Academy of Management Journal, the American Economic Review, the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management and the Strategic Management Journal. In 1997, she was the recipient of the Schulich School of Business research award. In 1998, she was a visiting international scholar at the University of California at Davis. In 2003, she won the Best Paper Award for the Strategy Division of the Administrative Sciences Association of Canada for “Stakeholder Influences and Sustainability Practices in the Canadian Forest Products Industry”. She is currently a member of the advisory board for the Haub Program in Business and Sustainability, a member of the Credit River Watershed Conservation Steering Committee and a member of an OECD working group on firm level management and environmental policy. In 2005–2006, she was elected to be the Professional Development Workshop Chair for the Organizations and the Natural Environment (ONE) group of the Academy of Management and Academic Reviewer for the Strategy Division of the Administrative Sciences Association of Canada. In 2006–2007, she is the Program Chair for the Organizations and the Natural Environment (ONE) group of the Academy of Management, and Program Chair for the Strategy Division of the Administrative Sciences Association of Canada. She received her PhD in economics from Queen’s University and her bachelor’s and master’s of science degrees from the Université de Montréal. In 2005, she was appointed by the Canadian Minister of the Environment to the Joint Public Advisory Committee of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation of North America (www.cec.org/jpac). In December 2006, she was elected the 2007 Chair of the Joint Public Advisory Committee.. Outside of the Academy, Irene was representative-at-large for the Strategic Management Society’s Competitive Strategy Interest Group, Chair of the Joint Public Advisory Committee of the North American Commission for Environmental Cooperation and Program Chair, Strategy Division, Administrative Sciences Association of Canada (ASAC). Irene is currently on the editorial board of the SMJ.
Irene is fluent in four languages (English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish) and loves the theatre. When not dealing with her professional responsibilities, Irene enjoys spending time in the outdoors with her husband and twin daughters.
