- Connecting four research solitudes: the impacts and implications of climate change for invasive species, biodiversity and society
The interactive effects of climate change and invasive species are complex and highly changeable. We cannot afford to ignore them if we are to successfully manage and adapt to a rapidly changing environment. Further delays in recognizing the interactive effects of climate change and invasives means that the harm that they cause to biodiversity, ecosystems, economies and societies across Canada, will continue to rise.
Past Research Projects
- Assessment of Invasive Alien Species in Ontario
Post-doctoral fellow Andrea Smith is leading this initiative in close consultation with the Ontario Biodiversity Science Forum and the Ontario Biodiversity Council. - Invasive Species in the Northwest Territories
IRIS was contracted by the Government of the Northwest Territories Environment and Natural Resources Department to recommend a strategy for the monitoring of invasive alien species. - UFORE - Urban Forest Effects Model | 2007-2008
During the summers of 2007 and 2008 students completed an inventory of the University's trees. The report "The Value of the Keele Campus Urban Forest" was launched on February 8th, 2010 at the IRIS Speaker Series.
